Editing/Creating Newsletter Using the Manual Editor

When populating the body of the newsletter with content, such as text, images and pre-set newsletter functions, the default editor which allows you to do this is the WYSIWYG editor. For those who wish to edit the content by working directly with the HTML code then the "manual editor" would be used. The following steps will highlight where this is selected and what functions are available that are generally used by the default WYSIWYG editor.

Enabling the Manual Editor The manual editor is enabled when populating the newsletter content by clicking the "Manual Editor" tab on the far right of the editing area:

Clicking this will change the content body to a HTML view where the code can be directly read and edited accordingly:

It is important that any changes made are followed by clicking the "Save Changes" button before leaving the page or clicking the WYSIWYG tab, otherwise the changes will be lost. There are two main functions available for those using the manual editor. These are adding images and adding pre-defined newsletter tags:

Adding Images Where you wish to add an image you must place your cursor within the code of the newsletter. You then use the dropdown box along the upper edge of the editing window to select the image you wish to enter:

The dropdown menu will display the image filenames in order of the folders you created originally, so it is important you name the folders and filenames as relevant as possible; such as the month in which the newsletter will be sent in for the folder name and a word/phrase relevant to the image itself. This will allow easy navigating of the dropdown menu when you have many folders and many images. Once the image is selected from the dropdown menu, click "Add Image" and the HTML code for it to be displayed will appear in the body of the newsletter.

Adding Pre-set Tags The other function that you have access to within the manual editor, is adding the pre-set newsletter tags. Similar to adding images, you will see within the top edge of the text editor window a dropdown box with a prompt to "insert" a particular tag:

The tags available are as follows: Greeting - For example "Dear" followed by the users' name. Firstname - Target user's firstname.
Surname - Target user's surname.
Email Address - Target user's email address.
View In Browser - A link that allows the user to view the newsletter in a web browser window.
Unsubscribe Link - The link that allows the user to unsubscribe from receiving the newsletter.

To add the tag, place the cursor in amongst the body of the newsletter text where you wish for it to appear and then simply select the desired one from the dropdown menu. Once selected, click the "add tag" button next to the menu:

The HTML code for this tag will appear where your cursor is within the text editor below:
Preview Campaign
You can keep an eye on how your changes are progressing by previewing the newsletter as your recipients will see it. This is done by simply clicking the "Preview Campaign" button [manual9] next to the "Add Tag" button along the top edge of the text editor. The preview of what ou have done so far will then appear. To close the preview, simply click the cross in the upper right corner of the preview window:

Once you have finished creating, editing and previewing, be sure to click the "Save Changes" button before moving away from this page.
